Cado Frozen Dessert, Dairy-free and Paleo

Last year, I wrote about cauliflower being the “it” food and reviewed crackers and puffs made with cauliflower. Well, you’ve probably heard about another “it” food, avocado. Surely, you’ve heard about or have eaten avocado toast. What makes avocados so versatile is you can use them in baking as a replacement for butter, oil, eggs, and shortening. And now it’s a replacement for dairy and alternative milk in Cado frozen dessert.

I like Cado for many reasons. First, it tastes great. You don’t taste the avocado, but the flavors. Second, it has no artificial flavors or GMOs, and the ingredients are organic. It’s also free of agave and corn syrup. Third, it’s free of many allergens, including gluten, dairy, soy, and corn. All the products are nut free except for the Cherry Amaretto and Choco Peanut Butter flavors. Fourth, it’s Paleo-friendly, being low carb and low in sugar. Fifth, it’s a great option for those who don’t like or are allergic to alternative milk. Sixth, avocados contain fat, but it’s a healthy fat. Finally, it comes in 10 flavors.

Here is my review of the 2 flavors I have tried.

Cado Vanilla Bean

Being made from avocado, the texture is very smooth. It doesn’t taste like avocados, but like vanilla and has real specks of vanilla bean.

Cado Simply Lemon

Simply Lemon has a fresh citrus flavor, and the sweetness balances the sour taste of lemons. If you like your lemonade tart, the kind that will make your mouth pucker, this frozen dessert is for you.

One difference between the two flavors is that with the vanilla bean flavor, the oils were separating, making it slushy while the lemon flavor held its shape. This might be because avocado puree is the first ingredient in Simply Lemon, whereas water and avocado oil are the first ingredients for the vanilla bean flavor. As a result, it dripped and probably wouldn’t hold up in a cone, so I recommend scooping it into a cup.

Other Flavors

Here are the ten Cado flavors. As you can see, they have a wide variety of flavors, especially if you are a chocoholic.

  1. Chocolate Mud Pie
  2. Choco Peanut Butter
  3. Deep Dark Chocolate
  4. Mint Chocolate Chip
  5. Cookies & Cream
  6. Java Chip
  7. Salted Caramel
  8. Vanilla Bean
  9. Simply Lemon
  10. Cherry Amaretto

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a frozen treat that is not made with dairy or alternative milk, look no further than Cado. Made with avocado, it has the smooth texture of avocados without the taste. It’s free of many allergens and has no artificial ingredients. It’s also Paleo-friendly, being low carb and low in sugar.
