In honor of National Pretzel Day on April 26th, I review four types of gluten and dairy-free pretzels- Paleo, soft, flavored, and filled.
The pretzels have a great taste and crunch, made even better by being Paleo. You can’t go wrong with any of the flavors – Sea Salt, Roasted Garlic and Herb, and Lil’ Bit Spicy. Sea Salt is perfectly salted, Roasted Garlic & Herb has a tasty Italian flavor, and Lil’ Bit Spicy is mild with a slight kick.
Sea Salt ingredients: Cassava Flour, Potato Starch, Palm Oil, Tapioca Starch, Faba Bean Protein, Tapioca Syrup, Salt, Milled Flax, Sunflower Lecithin.
Roasted Garlic & Herb ingredients: Grain Free Pretzels (Cassava Flour, Potato Starch, Palm Oil, Tapioca Starch, Faba Bran Protein, Tapioca Syrup, Salt, Milled Flax, Sunflower Lecithin), Non-GMO Sunflower Oil, Nutritional Yeast, Dehydrated Garlic, Dehydrated Onion, Turmeric, Cumin, Oregano, Red Pepper, Rosemary Extract
Lil’ Bit Spicy ingredients: Grain Free Pretzels (Cassava Flour, Potato Starch, Palm Oil, Tapioca Starch, Faba Bean Protein, Tapioca Syrup, Salt, Milled Flax, Sunflower Lecithin), Non-GMO Sunflower Oil, Nutritional Yeast, Onion Powder, Dehydrated Garlic, Tomato Powder, Cayenne Pepper, Jalapeño Pepper, Red Pepper Spice Extract, Rosemary Extract, and Paprika Extract.
Savor by Suzie also has a Paleo pretzel with dark chocolate.
Despite not being as good as soft pretzels sold at malls, such as Wetzel’s Pretzels or Auntie Anne’s, Katz soft pretzels still have a great taste and you can easily heat them in the microwave or oven. An additional bonus is that they are bite-sized and come with a packet of salt so you can adjust how much salt you want, if any.
Ingredients: Gluten-free flour blend (brown rice flour, white rice flour, tapioca starch, corn starch, chickpea flour, potato starch, potato flour), water, egg whites, canola oil, honey, sunflower lecithin, xanthan gum, salt, bamboo fiber, psyllium husk, dry yeast, apple cider vinegar, natural flavor. SALT PACKET: salt.
Quinn makes the first gluten and dairy-free peanut butter filled pretzel. While the peanut butter and pretzel go so well together, the only drawback is that the pretzels are so hard, I honestly feared chipping my teeth.
Ingredients: Peanut butter (dry roasted peanuts, sugar, salt), cassava flour, potato starch, sunflower oil, tapioca starch, whole grain sorghum flour, hemp heart flour, organic cane sugar, sea salt, sunflower lecithin, vitamin E (for freshness) CONTAINS PEANUTS.
This brand is new to me, and I found the pretzels at Walmart. The pretzels have a great tangy mustard taste with a sweet onion flavor. Most brands add honey, but this one contains brown sugar. The flavors go well together and it is highly addictive. And I love the crunch!
INGREDIENTS: Potato Starch, Cassava Flour, Corn Starch, Tapioca Starch, Rice Flour, Non-GMO Canola Oil, Brown Rice Syrup, Salt, Sugar, Cellulose Gum, Salad Style Mustard Powder [Salad Style Mustard (Organic Vinegar, Mustard Seed, Salt), Rice Maltodextrin], Yeast, Organic Tapioca Syrup Solids, Sunflower and/or Soy Lecithin, Onion Powder, Brown Sugar, Vinegar Powder (Maltodextrin, White Distilled Vinegar), Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Natural Flavor, Rosemary Extract, Extractives of Turmeric, Ascorbic Acid, Silicon Dioxide, and Canola Oil Added as Processing Aids.
This flavor is just as good as the mustard and onion. It has the perfect amount of sea salt and has a light buttery flavor from the olive, palm, and sunflower oils.
Ingredients: Potato Starch and or Potato Flour, Cassava Flour, Corn Starch, Tapioca Starch, Rice Flour, Palm Oil and/or Sunflower Oil, Canola Oil, Tapioca Syrup and/or Rice Syrup, Olive Oil, Sugar, Cellulose Gum, Sea Salt, Inactive Yeast, Baking Powder, and Sunflower Lecithin.
Other flavors are Classic Pretzel Twists, Buffalo Hot Wing, and Salted Caramel.

The four pretzel types have great flavors and I’m glad there are other gluten and dairy-free flavors besides buttery and salted. However, I warn you to be careful with Quinn Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels because they may be too hard on the teeth.
If you don’t like salt on your pretzels, you’re a fan of baldies.
Eighty percent of pretzels sold in the U.S. come from Pennsylvania, including Snyder’s of Hanover. Thus, it’s not surprising that Philadelphians eat the most pretzels.
