Gluten and Dairy-Free Wraps and Tortillas

They look the same and sometimes taste the same. However, wraps and tortillas are not the same. Tortillas are unleavened, meaning they don’t contain yeast. They usually have corn or wheat mixed with salt and water. They also don’t contain any spices, vegetables, or other flavors. By contrast, wraps are soft breads usually containing yeast and may have different flavors added. Read on for my review of BFree wraps and Siete tortillas.

BFree Gluten Free Wraps, Variety Pack

  • Sweet potato
  • Quinoa and chia
  • Multigrain

BFree wraps are more like tortillas in texture than wraps since they are not thick and fluffy. I will do one review for the three very similar flavors. The wraps are low in carbs and high in fiber. Unfortunately, you can’t taste the veggies or spices since they are bland. Although they hold up very well, they are dry, even when dipped in hummus.

BFree High Protein Carb Friendly Wraps

I am reviewing this wrap separately since it does not contain vegetables or spices like the other wraps. Instead, it is a low-carb, high-protein wrap.

First, I wish they had a resealable package like the other three. Second, they have a short expiration date, two days after opening. However, you can freeze them. Third, they are less dry than the flavored tortillas, but smell like Playdough and taste like what I imagine Playdough tastes like. They were still bland after heating; using them as a tortilla filling and dipped in hummus did not make a difference either.

Ingredients:

Water, Rice Protein, Pea Protein, Chickpea Flour, Bamboo Fiber, Thickening Agents (Xanthan Gum, Guar Gum), Sunflower Oil, Pear Concentrate, Inulin, Milled Brown Flaxseed, Acids (Citric Acid, Tartaric Acid), Flavors (Rowanberry Extract, Flavoring) Fermented Corn, Cultured Dextrose, Emulsifier (Mono and Diglycerides), Psyllium Husk,  Salt, Sourdough (Rice Flour, Water), Raising Agent (Glucono-Delta-Lactone), Preservative (Sorbic Acid), Yeast. May Contain Sesame.

Siete Almond Flour Tortillas

Siete Almond Flour Tortillas can pass as a tortilla or wrap. They are sold frozen and are big, like the ones used for burritos. They are also an excellent substitute for corn or flour tortillas if you are Paleo. The wraps have a pleasant, mild taste and are versatile. I dipped them in hummus and used them as a substitute for traditional tortillas in tacos.

The tortillas are grain-free, non-GMO, gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, and vegan.

Siete also makes tortillas with cassava flour and chickpea flour.

Ingredients:

Almond flour, tapioca flour, water, sea salt, xanthan gum.

Other Siete Products

Siete also makes grain-free tortilla chips with cassava flour, avocado oil, and coconut flour. They taste great, are crunchy, and you can’t tell they don’t have corn.

Conclusion

BFree wraps taste more like tortillas because they are flat instead of fluffy. The wraps are very dry and bland despite having vegetables and spices. By comparison, Siete Almond Flour tortillas are my favorite because they taste great, can replace tortillas, and can be dipped in hummus for a great snack. I was not surprised by how good their tortillas are, considering I enjoy their other products.
