You’ve probably seen Himalayan salt everywhere, from salt shakers to lamps. Lesser Evil makes popcorn with coconut oil and Himalayan salt and I review three flavors – Himalayan Pink Salt, Himalayan Gold, and “No Cheese” Cheesiness.
While sea salt comes from evaporated sea water or salt mines, Himalayan salt is a pink salt from the Himalayan Mountains of South Asia. It’s believed to be healthier than regular sea salt because it has more beneficial minerals than sea salt, up to 84 different minerals and trace elements. It also contains less sodium chloride than table salt.
All three reviewed Lesser Evil popcorn flavors contain organic popcorn, organic coconut oil, and Himalayan salt. Himalayan Gold contains the addition of a butter-type flavor and the cheese-flavored one contains yeast extract, rice flour, and tapioca. They are non-GMO, gluten-free, and vegan.
According to the Lesser Evil website, air-popped popcorn is the healthiest form of popcorn you can eat, and “organic popcorn also has a lower glycemic index than other types of popcorn. Organic products are grown free of pesticides, fertilizers, hormones, and antibiotics. They are free of artificial ingredients or preservatives“.
This flavor has a good salty taste, like plain salted popcorn. It reinforces the quote by Bob Harper “if you’re wanting something salty, do air-popped popcorn. That, to me, would be a healthier choice than having any kind of fried chip.”
Like the Pink Salt flavor, it has a nice salty flavor, with an added buttery taste. While there is a slight coconut taste, it does not take away from the buttery flavor. However, I prefer Skinny Pop and Angie’s vegan popcorn, which have a more authentic buttery flavor, thanks to sunflower oil. This popcorn has a tasty authentic cheesy flavor and you don’t taste the coconut oil. For those new to vegan cheese (also called cheeze), this is because of the nutritional yeast. Nutritional yeast, also called nooch, has a powerful cheese flavor and is used as a replacement for cheese in vegan foods.
Other Lesser Evil popcorn flavors include Fiery Hot, Himalayan Sweetness, and Avocado-licious. However, I should warn you that their “Oh My Ghee!” flavor contains milk.

Lesser Evil Himalayan Pink Salt is a good plain salted popcorn. The Himalayan Gold fell short of other vegan buttery popcorn brands, like Skinny Pop and Angie’s. Of all the three flavors, the “No Cheese” Cheesiness is my favorite because of the authentic cheese taste.
