The chips taste similar to Doritos Cool Ranch. They have a tangy ranch taste, are crunchy, and melt in your mouth similar to their puffs (https://liveglutenanddairyfree.com/vegan-cheese-puffs).
The chips have a great cheesy, mildly spicy flavor, similar to Doritos Poppin’ Jalapeno.
Both flavors are made with chickpea, corn, and rice flours. They are certified gluten free, kosher, vegan, organic, non-GMO, nut and soy free. They have a great crunch and do not crumble easily.
Made with black beans, navy beans and brown rice, the tortilla chips have the look, texture and crunch of Doritos. The jalapeno has a mild kick, but you don’t taste the nacho cheese. They are more jalapeno flavored chips. They are high in protein and fiber, vegan, certified gluten free and non-GMO.
Skinny Pop Original and Angie’s BoomChickaPop Sea Salt Popcorn are made with only three simple ingredients: corn, oil and salt. Like the gluten and dairy free pretzels I have reviewed (https://liveglutenanddairyfree.com/pretzels-crackers-and-pretzel-crackers), I am amazed at how they can taste buttery without any dairy. The secret is the one ingredient they share, vegetable oil. The pretzels use palm oil while the popcorn brands use sunflower oil, both of which have rich buttery overtones.
Skinny Pop and Angie’s are similar in taste, but Skinny Pop has a slight advantage by tasting more like butter and being crispier. Both also make microwave popcorn, perfect for movie night.
PopCorners is a popcorn shaped like Doritos. They are also made with corn, sunflower oil and salt. They have a great buttery taste and the puffed triangle shape makes eating them convenient since you don’t get kernels stuck between your teeth.
Skinny Pop, Angie’s and Popcorners are buttery tasting popcorn made with corn, drizzled in sunflower oil with a pinch of salt. All are great snacks. And while Beanfields makes a Jalapeno Nacho chip, Hippeas Jalapeno Vegan Cheddar is the better choice with a cheesier flavor. Hippeas also makes a great ranch chip that reminds me of Doritos Cool Ranch.
Water makes popcorn pop. Inside each kernel is a tiny droplet of water. As the popcorn is heated, the water turns into steam which builds pressure inside the kernel. When the outer shell, called hull, can no longer contain the pressure, the kernel explodes into popcorn. Unpopped popcorn kernels are referred to as old maids.
Charles Cretors created the first popcorn machine with an electric motor. He introduced his new popcorn wagon to Chicago’s Columbian Exposition in 1893.
“Popcorn is one of the only situations in which you eat the result of an explosion.” Demetri Martin
“I understand what it’s like to work all week and on Friday night just want to go and leave your brain at the door, buy some popcorn and be thrilled by something.” Don Cheadle
